How the Recovery Process Works

Crypto Recovery Trust operates a structured claims process for lost or insecure digital asset wallets held in custody.

Never pay an upfront fee to recover cryptocurrency

Crypto Recovery Trust will never ask you for a fee, deposit, retainer, or payment of any kind to return your digital assets. Once ownership is verified, recovered assets are returned to the original owner at no cost.

Anyone who demands payment before releasing recovered cryptocurrency is attempting to defraud you — including anyone claiming to act for this Trust. Advance-fee recovery schemes deliberately target people who have already lost money to fraud.

About the Trust

The Trust operates to safeguard and settle title to digital assets separated from their owners by theft, abandonment or other means. Most owners of digital assets are unaware of exploitable vulnerabilities in their cryptography, leaving them vulnerable to millions of dollars a year in losses to criminal organizations. Such “insecure virtual currency,” or “IVC,” destabilizes the credibility of the digital asset market and accumulates into massive pools of wealth that can be mobilized if discovered by malicious actors. These dormant funds create an expanding attack surface for hostile nation-states, terrorist organizations, and sophisticated criminal enterprises who are developing specialized capabilities to identify and purloin IVC.

The Trust does not recover IVC or digital assets for third-parties. The Trust receives digital assets from independent and vetted cybersecurity professionals who have found vulnerable digital assets and turned them over to the Trust for safekeeping and to enable their return to their rightful owners.

Program Overview

Public wallet listings intentionally omit balances and vault destination addresses. Claimants identify their original wallet address and prove control of the associated key without submitting raw private key material.

Regulatory Status

The Trust does not solicit customers, manage client investments, lend, trade or rehypothecate assets in its custody and does not hold itself out to the public as available to act in a fiduciary capacity or undertake such duties in the regular course of a fiduciary-services business. The Wyoming Division of Banking has further determined that the Trust does not require a trust company charter, its virtual currency activity falls within the virtual currency exemption in the Wyoming Money Transmitters Act, and does not require a Wyoming money transmitters license.
